Don’t Over Do It!
Well there you have it, I’m tired! We’ve been on the road a lot this month from Mississippi, to Louisiana, to Arkansas, to Oklahoma, and now back in Texas. I’ve put a lot of miles on my car and my body. I feel fortunate to do what I do, but have also realized lately that I need to start taking care of myself better (or better yet my wife realized it). It’s a hard thing to do when you are so used to grabbing food on the go, staying up until 3-4AM, and exerting myself the way I do on stage. Still, I have more than just myself to look out for so it’s time to make some changes.
1.) I need to change my eating habits. Even though, I pay the rent for our local Chick-fil-a, I know it’s just not cutting it. This is probably the hardest thing for me to do because if its full of sugar or grease, it’s usually calling my name. Recently, I have noticed my body lagging a bit so it’s time to see if there is something to what all those health nuts talk about.
2.) I’ll try to get more sleep. I’m usually up until 2-3AM every night, so I am thinking a couple more hours might do me some good. Plus, these bags under my eyes need to take a vacation.
3.) Working out…..blah! As much as I love people, the gym is not really where I want to be. So unless it’s a yoga class with my wife or Zumba, I don’t have a lot of options. Yes, I get plenty of aerobic exercise when performing, but it’s time to put a little meat on my bones (the healthy way).
4.) Finding time to relax is next on the agenda. My wife likes to take a day every now and then and go to the spa, I can’t really relax like that I end up trying to talk to everyone else and disrupting their relaxation time. I can, however, relax with a few hours of my feet up with a good show on Netflix. I just need to start making sure I take that time to wind down.
5.) I’ve got to start praying and studying the bible more. Yes, I am an unashamed Christian. When I do sit down and pray or study, I find I am more centered and my anxiety is not there. There is a lot of hope and comfort in the Lord and I find the crazier my life gets, the more I need Him.
If you’re in the same boat as me, let me suggest the list above to you. I think you will be surprised at how much better you feel when you actually start taking care of yourself.
